Yankees/A-rod

I have to say everyone, now that the Red Sox are out of it, I am fully engrossed in watching the Yankees demise. The only problem is that it is not happening and by the looks of it, it does not appear to be happening anytime soon. They are rolling right now, peaking at the perfect time and it is not looking good for us here in Red Sox Nation. The Skanks fans are already salivating at the idea of their first Championship since 2000, when they took down the Mets in the overhyped Subway Series. I am going to let you in a little secret too, for some twisted reason, I was kind of, sort of rooting for A-Rod to finally hit in October. The only person I really discussed this with was my father. I don't really know why it is, I mean, the guy has a tendency to piss me off royally on the field (see yelling " I got it" rounding third against the Jays, and his infamous bitch slap of Bronson Arroyo's glove in the 2004 ALCS, and finally, the way he gave Angels catcher Jeff Mathis an little extra last night during the collision at home). I just felt like, roids or not, this is one of the greatest hitters of this century and it would be a shame to look back at a hall of famer and think that the guy couldn't get it done in October. That being said, according to my father, I have single handedly reversed A-rod's playoff woes and I am cause of the Yankees success. So, this is my confession via the soon to be famous "Sage's Palace" blog...Open for responses and hopefully new topics to come...

Have a great weekend everyone!

  1. Wow, I never thought I would see the day that you would (allbeit) secretly root for A-Rod to hit in the playoffs. However, I feel that most true baseball fans must have a rooted interest in witnessing great players achieve greatness. I mean I can't imagine there were many Red Sox fan's that weren't a little bit happy that Boggs finally won a title, and I mean hell the Bruins held a parade for a player whom won a championship on another team. So the deep rooted interest in hoping to see great players accomplish great things should be something found in all sport fans.

Back to A-Rod, and a theory. His numbers before that fateful October series against the sox he actually had been hitting in the playoffs. He batted .409 against the Yanks in 2000 (ALCS), with a slugging of .773, and then 4 years later in a sweep of the Twins he batted .421. Then something went screwie, over the next 3 years he hit rock bottom, with the low point being a .071 in the series against the Tigers. What could have happened to one of our generations greatest hitters? Steroids? Having sex with Madonna? Who knows, but it has always perplexed me about a player of his ability to just drop off the map...
