iPhone Haters

Hey guys...Sorry the long wait for my newest post. The whole graduate school/married life/real job thing tends to get in the way of frivolous blogging. Anyways, there is something that has really been bothering since I got my iPhone and I would like to discuss this here and I am open to comments. The things that bothers me the most about my iPhone are the goddamn haters that come with owning one. Here I would like to lay out some examples of the hate that comes without fail.

A) Upon my first week of buying the iPhone, I was meeting my buddy Brendan at John Harvard's for some pints and than a movie. Upon arriving there, I noticed he was with a buddy whom we will call Christian (just joking, that is his name). I pulled out my newly acquired smartphone to show Brendan and now, by association, Christian. While Brendan was mostly indifferent if not a bit hateful (as an IT guy, you know the hate for anything Mac related is insufferable), it was Christian who really took the cake here. Immediately, he pulled out his phone (a Palm Pre I think, I really don't care what the fuck he had to be perfectly honest with you) and starting telling me, or really pontificating in my direction, about how great his phone was and how much the iPhone sucks. Really, this guy whom I had never met before, had never uttered a single word to was seriously shitting on my phone while simutaneoulsy telling me how great his was. Were my feelings hurt? Did I cry into my beer when we got to John Harvards? No, of course not. Was I annoyed as shit about having my phone hated on by a complete stranger? And this is just one story, I have another one on deck about how my phone is perceived at work but I am going to shelf this one for now.

Yes, and here is why. I did not buy the iPhone to be cool, to be trendy or to be associated in this elite, hipster culture. I bought it because it is a cool phone with some cool features, I was already an AT&T subscriber and I got it for $50 as a refurb. The irony of it is that I don't even love the phone. It is a phone, yes I check my email on it, yes I update my Facebook status on it, and of course, I check the latest scores on it. What I want to know, is why people actually give a fuck what phone I own or use and why so many people feel compelled to tell you that this phone sucks. I'm venturing that these are the same people who sit in on Friday or Saturday night's with nothing to do because they have wasted their time hating on people who actually have plans. Or these are the same proclaiming that there is "a war on Christmas" My advice to these people is really to keep their own opinions to themselves and if you want to hate on something, make it worthwhile. Why don't you hate on what's going on in Sudan, or the terror attempt that just completely flew under the radar or Obama's pledge to take us out of the two current wars but has rather just committed another 30,000 troops to Afghanistan in what this writer will deem as a winless war...Just think about it.

That's it for now....Peace people, be sure to comment and follow my blog!

  1. I am an IT guy Mac convert. I used to hate on Macs, but all things Windows have sucked for about 5 years now (Vista and Windows Mobile, what a joke). And during that time Apple has really kicked ass. Palm and even Blackberry are no competition. Google may be though.
Also, I am pretty sure Obama did not campaign on ending the Afgan war, just the Iraq war. I think he has always said we needed to refocus on the war that was actually connected to 9/11.
